Before I talk about the map, first you must understand about speedmapping. Click the link to find out more, but basicly it was first done with Q3, and the idea was to create a map in a small amount of time (60 minutes) that was fun to play. It was a success.

After a while there were weekly speedmapping sessions organized for Q1. Shortly thereafter, several types of speedmapping sessions were going on, including 100 minute and 3 hour sessions, and singleplayer sessions in varying lengths of time. Then there was the idea for a speedchainmap.

The idea of speedchainmapping is to get a group of about 8 people who will each make a small section of a map in three hours time. Each section will be made in the same texture set, and should be of the highest quality possible given the limited amount of time. Generally, the items and monsters should not be placed, as they will need to be changed anyway. At the end of the 3 hours, all the maps are sent to someone who will "glue" all the maps into one coherent level.

The texture set for this speedchainmap was a collection of textures from Heretic 2 and Hexen 2. The participants were nightbringer, gibbie, Than, and I, with Than gluing all the map sections togethor. Than truely did a great job and he is the reason this map is so good. The final product is a medium to large map in sort of a temple/swampy theme. The screenshot on the left is from part of my section, and the one on the right is from part of gibbie's section.

This map comes highly recommended, and is better than most maps that are made by a single author. Go on! Download it!
